The person behind the shield

Raymond Morris Sr., BS, MS, was raised on the west side of Chicago in the Henry Horner Homes. Over more than 40 years, that little boy from the projects went on to carry a badge at nearly every level of service.

He served with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, worked as a Detective Corporal with the Odessa Police Department, joined the Miami Police Department in its Inspection Division, and served with the Evanston Police Department. His career also took him to the IRS as a Revenue Officer and to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, where he worked as a Special Agent during the Obama administration.

Of every title he has held, the one he treasures most is Deacon and Chief of Security at his church, Greater Bethlehem Healing Temple. He wrote The Other Side of the Badge to win souls for God, which remains his focus and his calling in life.

"I definitely recommend this book. It is very insightful and gives a deeper look into the life and experiences of a police officer. It also tells that no matter your upbringing, you can achieve whatever you put your mind to. Would definitely like a part 2 to get a little more detail of the author's experiences."
